A small boat, adrift in the Mediterranean Sea. Out of fuel, food and water, the terrified passengers call an emergency number. The European authorities, NATO and all military and commercial vessels in the area are alerted. But no rescue is ever attempted. Over the next 15 days, observed by a helicopter, a military ship and passing fishing vessels, the boat’s occupants - 72 desperate African migrants - begin to die, one by one, in one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world. Only nine survived the ordeal.
